Its Confirmed! Apple is in the Self-Driving Car Business! #Apple
By now you should already know that Google has been working on a self-driving car project. It is not a secret that they have been interested in this technology for the longest time. And, of course, since that will be an emerging market, competitors must also be on the fray, correct?
Well, yes, of course. But who will compete with Google on this front? Honda? BMW? Ferrari? Audi?
Apple.
Yes, Apple, of course; Apple competes with Google in many other ways so why not the self-driving car?
And, sure enough, new reports are now circulating that Apple is pretty far along in their self-driving car project as well. Some believe that the tech company is actually on the hunt for locations to test the prototype in the San Francisco area. As a matter of fact, reports go back to May of this year, indicating that the Apple Special Projects team met with some officials at GoMentum Station for this exact reason. GoMentum Station, of course, is a former naval base which provides 2,100 acres of open space for the test drives. That equates to 3.28 sq miles of space which is more than enough for a simple test drive, particularly when the tests are operational for city driving (and not, say, for speed and handling).
Of course, while the latest information certainly indicates that the tech firm is moving forward on this project, there is still much more to be tested and designed and developed. There are many questions that the industry itself still needs to answer so, for now, these new models and concepts will likely remain as such. Still, it is a remarkable crossroads in the evolution of travel.
